How to get video and audio editing jobs
Now that you know how to use the editing software, it’s time to start working. Fiverr and Upwork are the two best places to look for video and audio editing work because they are the platforms small businesses and entrepreneurs tend to go to when they need this kind of work done.
For both Fiverr and Upwork, the process is basically the same:
- You sign up
- You become a ‘seller’ of a service. In the case of wanting to do video and audio editing, that is your service
- Set up your profile
- Your profile is what catches the eye of the ones looking to hire. For Fiverr, go to the ‘Become a Seller’ link located at the top right. For Upwork, click the ‘Find Work’ link at the top. Then, for both platforms, enter a little bit about who you are, a clear picture of yourself, some info. about your service, and your skills. - Create your ‘gig’
- This is your video/audio editing job skills and knowledge description. This is where you type in what you can do and what you have to offer.
- Set your price
- Fiverr uses packages as the pricing structure; You can set any price you want with Upwork.
When someone likes what you have to offer and your skills suit them, they’ll contact you via the Fiverr or Upwork platform. You can also search the jobs within either platform and send proposals to them.
#2 Create a YouTube Channel
This is one of the best work at home opportunities moms have because it can be about anything and you can ‘work’ on it any time of the day or night.
In fact, a YouTube channel is an often overlooked ‘job’ that anyone can start and has unlimited earning potential.
What kind of YouTube channel do you want to start ?
To get started, the very first thing you need to do is figure out what your YouTube channel will be about. Here are the first few steps:
Step #1, Pick a topic. You want to pick a topic that you’re interested in and other people are interested in, too.
Step #2, Brainstorm ideas within your topic. Spend some time thinking about video ideas on your topic. For example, if you like to grow tropical plants you can come up with video ideas on how to make a soil mix tropicals like, how to cut-back palm trees, how to grow Cannas…you get the idea.
Step #3, Do research. Take a look at other YouTube videos to identify competitors and see which of their videos are the most popular.
How to set up your YouTube channel
Now that you have an idea what kind of channel to start, it’s time to set up a YouTube account.
If you have a Google account, you’re all set (Google owns YouTube). Here’s a thorough 3-step explanation on how to set up a YouTube account, but to summarize, this is how to do it:
- Go to YouTube, click the ‘Sign In’ button, enter your Google login info. (or create a Google account).
- When signed in, go to your profile setting icon, which is located at the tip right corner, and click the ‘Create A Channel’ button.
- Answer a few basic questions.
- Name your channel. You channel name should represent your idea.
- Create your first video.
- Your video should be informative, interesting, and not boring. It should also be made well, which can be a challenge, so here is a great tutorial on how to do it:
- Promote your video. These are the main ways to promote your video:
- Use social media,
- Tell everyone you know about your channel,
- Promote your channel organically, on YouTube, without paying for advertising.
Once you’ve gone through all these steps, you can start to monetize your channel. According to Adam Enfroy ( a big money-making blogger), some of the best ways to do that is with affiliate links and ads.

Grocery shopping is one of those things that has to be done but not everyone wants to do it so they pay a small fee to have others do it for them.
And that person can be you. You can earn several hundred dollars a month, working just a few hours a week, grocery shopping for others.
And you can do it with kids in tow, too.
How to get a shopping job
Both Shipt and Instacart work in a similar way:
First, go to Shipt’s website to apply as a Shopper. You’ll have to enter your name, email, phone number and zip code – zip code so they can determine if there are stores in your area that work with Shipt.
Then, if Shipt is interested in you, they’ll contact you for an interview.
Finally, once approved to be a Shopper, you download the app, start shopping and get paid.
You do have to be at least 18 years old, have a valid U.S. drivers license, valid insurance, and a recent model car but if you meet these requirements you’re likely to be able to start working for Shipt.
Instacart has two ways to be paid as a Shopper:
- A full-service Shopper, where you’re an independent contractor and do the grocery shopping for a customer then deliver the items to their location.
- Shop only, where you work as an employee for Instacart and only do in-store shopping for customers.
To get started with either option, you create an account on Instacart.com them download the Shopper app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store to complete the sign up process and get your background check started. When your background check has cleared and you’re approved to shop, you can sign on to shop and make money on your own schedule.
#5 Kid-Friendly Travel Planner
Do you take your kids on trips and excursions?
I bet you know all the best places that cater to children so they stay happy as clams. Working as a travel planner is right up your alley !
In fact, this is one of the easiest jobs for stay at home moms with no experience.
OK, I’ll admit this one does require you to be on the phone. But heck, it’s a fun job if you like making travel arrangements ! Besides, chances are pretty good you’ll communicate with customers via email or chat.
I discovered this little mom-job niche kind of by accident when an old acquaintance left her nursing job to fulfill her love of hanging out with Mickey Mouse. She’s now a Disney Travel Specialist at Magical Vacation Planner, making over $1,200 a month. And she only works a few hours a week. Lucky girl !
I gotta say, Disney trips are super hot with kids !
Here’s how to get started as a kid-friendly travel planner:
You don’t need experience in the travel industry. You don’t need a specific career background. And you don’t need a college degree.
You DO need a strong interest in travel planning.
And here’s the real secret:
You need a niche.
And being a kid-friendly travel planner is a niche.
So here’s what I suggest:
First, using the Disney travel planner example I just mentioned, go to the JOIN OUR TEAM link on the Magical Vacation Planner site (yep, that’s the link).
Then, fill out ALL the questions on the online application. When it comes to the “essay” questions, make sure to provide as much information why you should be a vacation planner. Do you really, really, love Mickey Mouse ? Are you a big-time collector of all things Disney ? Do you know all the secrets that keep your kids happy when you go to Disney ?
And be 100% honest. Or else it’ll come back and bite you in the butt.
Finally, hit the submit button and wait to hear back.

Service fees, on the other hand are determined by you and can be anywhere from $100.00 to over $500.00.

Being a content creator is a good job for stay at home moms because it offers a ton of flexibility, can be done part time, and can become a full time career later on.
Content Creators are part of a larger marketing strategy that aims to gather new customers, retain current customers, and build revenue. You’ll be responsible for creating appealing, eye-catching, and easy to read digital information.
Content Creator jobs include:
- Sourcing and editing images
- Scheduling blog post publication dates
- Updating blog posts
- Writing blog posts
- Performing SEO
- Posting content to social media
Writing is the most in-demand content creation task. In fact, there are several paid writing opportunities – even for beginners.

#1 Go to ProBlogger and check out the job openings. See all those content creation jobs ? Click on any one of them to see the requirements. Are you a good fit ? And this is important: ProBlogger does a good job of vetting the jobs on their site so I’m comfortable saying any job you see there is legitimate.
#2 If you just want to write, check out Journalism Jobs. There’s a nice variety of writing jobs in the journalism field.
#3 Learn all you can about the specific type of content creation you’re interested in then get some freelance gigs on Upwork to build your profile.
#4 Once you have completed some freelance projects, look for remote content creation jobs in our up-to-date jobs page..
If you like variety, doing short tasks as a Crowdsourcer is a good option for you.
And I’ll add this: this is one of the easiest jobs you can get started on.
Basically, you’ll pick-and-choose quick assignments and earn money. How much you earn depends on the type of task you do, how many you do, and how quickly you can accurately do them. The longer, more involved tasks pay more.
Crowdsourcing tasks include:
- Isolating elements in an image (like isolating an apple in a fruit bowl)
- Providing keywords for an image
- Data entry
- Moderating content
- Manage social media
- Editing images
- Article writing
And here are a couple examples of how you might spend your time doing a task:
Let’s say you’re good at writing about travel destinations. You find a task for a travel blog where an 800 word article is needed. You spend 2 hours writing that article and earn $20.00 (or whatever the rate is).
Or you’re scanning through the list of available tasks and come across one where you assign keywords to a photo and make $2.00. Easy money for five minutes of your time.

#8 Conversational English Teacher To Children
OK, you have a knack for relating to children, awesome. But you may not want to be a teacher. I get you.
But this isn’t your typical teaching or tutoring kind of job.
In fact, this is one of the most rewarding – and legitimate – work from home jobs for moms.
Working a flexible schedule, you will teach students whose primary language is NOT English to speak conversational English. Basically, how to carry on a coherent conversation, otherwise known as English-as-a-second-language teaching, or ESL.
And your students are mostly children in China (but don’t worry, you can do this job from your home).
If you have a Bachelor’s Degree or some kind of leadership background (coach, pastor, mentor) and want to help kids learn how to speak English, go for it.
…You also need TESL certification. It’s pretty easy to get and only takes a few weeks. If this is something you’re considering, read my post on how to get TESL certification and start making $25.00 an hour.
Here’s how to get started as an ESL teacher
Before you go off and sign-up with an ESL company (which I’ll list), there are 9 things you need to know before you get started:
#1 You need the right education. If you have a Bachelor’s degree, then Qkids and DaDaAbc are good choices. No degree ? Don’t worry, iTalki is a very flexible job for stay at home moms with no degree.
#2 You need ESL certification.
#3 English must be your first language
#4 Understand that the basics to you, like letters and number, are not so basic to someone who is not fluent in English. Take your time teaching these things.
#5 Be patient – some letter combinations and sounds don’t exist in other countries.
#6 Just about everything might inspire your teaching creativity.
#7 Are you cheerful and likeable ? You should be. And making your students laugh is a good thing.
#8 You need the right environment and tools. An office with a desk and white board is great. Props, like letter blocks and puppets are a big hit.
#9 Your technology should be new-ish. You also need to be familiar with Skype or Facetime. You also need a stable internet connection.
Now you’re ready to check out some of the best ESL companies to work for:

OK, now that you have an idea of what skills you need and which companies are worth going with, all you have to do is fill out the application and go through the application / interview process.
Conversational English Teacher Application Process
The application process to teach conversational English is similar from one company to another and consists of these steps:
- You select a company to work for, sign-up and create a teacher account
- read the company’s ‘teacher guidelines/requirements’ to make sure you qualify. Some companies require you live in the USA only, some require you know a second language.
- Provide some basic information about yourself, such as name, county, education level, training, experience with children.
- Record a demo video so the company knows how you plan to interact with your students, what props you use, and how well you speak English. Most companies provide tips and a recording platform.
- Teach a mock class under the supervision of an already trained teacher.
- Present your credentials / ESL certificate and accept the contract.
#9 Photo Provider For Bloggers
You’ve probably read about making money by selling photos and scoffed. But you really can !
And here’s a little secret:
Bloggers are always looking for quality images.
In fact, they need awesome images. A lot of us “seasoned” bloggers don’t like to use free images because just about every newbie blogger use them. We need original, theme-based images to match our blog.
So we spend a few bucks and buy some appealing pics.
And that’s where you profit.
With cell phone in hand, take some pictures of…whatever. Your kids doing a puzzle, the view looking up into a group of trees, a park, the sunset, a cluttered desk. Anything.

- It’s a numbers game. The more pics you have to sell, the better your chances of making money.
- Try to stick with a niche. Personally, I – and all my fellow “work from home” bloggers – look for images with a specific feel; usually pictures that include a laptop, a desk, or an office scene. Mommy bloggers look for images showing kids doing stuff or moms working on specific projects.
- Images without faces do better on Pinterest, according to this study, which is cool if you don’t want your child’s face all over the internet.

#10 Social Media Specialist
When I think of one of the coolest jobs stay at home moms can do that doesn’t require experience, I think of social media.
Social media is not going away. That’s great because you can make a nice little fortune managing the social profiles of just about anyone: bloggers and business of all sizes.
And here’s something not many people realize:
Blog owners LOVE Pinterest because it is a hot-spot for getting traffic to their blog. And that means that Pinterest is quickly becoming a profitable side gig as it gains ground among blog owners.

Working for a company, the average salary for a Social Media Specialist is just over $50,000.00 a year, according to Glassdoor.com, and the average rate charged by freelancers is about $28.00 an hour.

#11 General Transcriptionist
There are a ton of articles telling us that online transcription is one of the best ways for moms to make money.
In fact, transcription is considered to be one of the easiest jobs for stay at home moms with no degree.
But the pay sucks.
Unless you have a lot of experience and really good training, then we’re talking pay that’s over $50,000.00 a year. Easier said than done, especially for a busy mom, right ?
So how does a mom with no transcription experience get started ?
Here’s how to get started Doing transcription from home:
Because you’re just starting out, you need to build up some experience.
And to do that, start by reading my step-by-step guide on how to become a transcriptionist.
If you’re really good at transcribing, you can make pretty good money. But there’s more to doing transcription than fast typing and careful listening skills. You can do all the practice tests in the world and work for all the “popular” online transcription companies, but without knowing all the little details that save you time and energy, you won’t get beyond the beginner transcription jobs.
Which brings me to this…
How much can you make doing transcription ?
As a new transcriber, you can make around $500.00 a month. And that’s assuming you’re working for more than one beginner-level transcription company.
As an experienced transcriber, you have the potential of earning over $50,000.00, which is the average salary.
So how do you become experienced and make that much ?
By following these three simple steps:
- Build up your experience with the transcription companies that take beginners I just mentioned.
- Start working for some companies that want experienced transcribers like Transcript Divas, Ubiquis, and 3Play Media
- Get more training because the more you know, the better you’ll become and the more you’ll make. My recommendations? First, take this online course because it covers a lot and is pretty inexpensive. Then, do this course because it is VERY THOROUGH.
#12 Service-Specific Virtual Assistant
Most people call this kind of job a Virtual Assistant, but I think that is too general of a description. I like to call this kind of work Online Administrative Assistant because it tells us the role is specific to administrative tasks…not picking up dry cleaning or taking kids to birthday parties.
This is an awesome way for moms to make money from home because you can narrow your niche down to what makes you happy. And what works for your schedule.
Here’s how to get started as a Service-Specific Virtual Assistant:
To get started, think about the office-y kind of things you like to do.
-Responding to emails ?
-Scheduling appointments and meetings ?
-Transcribing recorded seminars into text ?
-Maybe it’s web design or creating logos ?
Now, read through my guide on how to become a Virtual Assistant with no experience. You’ll learn what tools you should know how to use and how to pick a service niche.
Then, do one of these:
#1 Get hired with a legitimate company that specializes in virtual assistant / administrative assistant work.
This is the quickest way to get started as an online administrative assistant because a there are a lot of companies that take beginners.
You do, however, have to show you can do basic administrative tasks. Here are some things to think about:
- How’s your typing, grammar, and writing skills ?
- Do you have trouble-shooting skills ?
- Are you organized ?
- Know your way around a computer and different software packages ?
- Do you have past experience as an Administrative Assistant ?
If you think you have the chops to do this kind of work then check out Boldly, Time, Etc, Belay, VaVaVirtual Assistants or MyBTLR. They’re all legitimate virtual assistant companies that are often hiring.
#2 Be An Independent Administrative Assistant
Which means A LOT MORE MONEY as long as you can provide a service that is in-demand.
But getting started can be a bit tricky. Among other things, you need to know where to get clients, how to write up contracts, and how much to charge.
So this is what I suggest:
First, take a look at the in-demand services you should offer that I list here. Doing this will start the foundation of your niche – something you specialize in.
Having a niche will get you the better paying clients.
Then, once you figure out what service you want to offer, set up your profile on the job platform Upwork and “bid” on jobs (I mention Upwork a lot because it’s pretty easy to get up and running and start “bidding” on jobs).

This is a high-demand job among blog owners because we’re human and make type-o’s.
In my case, a lot of them.
So, bloggers pay to have people proofread their posts before they are published.

The first thing you need to do is know how to proofread. In other words, can you spot grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors ?
This is what I suggest:

You can also go to ProofreadAnywhere.com and do the test there. It’s also free.
The next thing you should do is check out the FREE intro workshop offered by Proofread Anywhere. It’s a good starter.
Then, Further your skills with this inexpensive online course. It not only goes over the basics, it covers how to set your rates and find work.

But to set yourself up as a POST PROOFREADER, you need to really specify that niche. And you do that by setting yourself up as a freelance proofreader on Upwork and “selling” your service as a professional Post Proofreader.

How much can you make as a Proofreader ?
It’s not too out of line to think you can make over $30.00 or an hour as a proofreader. In fact, take a look at these freelance proofreaders who make good money peddling their skills on Upwork.
If you think you have the chops to be a proofreader – meaning you can spot the common, and not-so-common, grammar mistakes – then I say “go for it”.
#14 Etsy Marketer
There’s more to you than just doing mommy stuff. You have interests.
Maybe you like to garden. Or make jewelry. Or you’re thinking about starting a soap making business – which, by the way, is easier than I thought 🙂
Your hobby can be turned into a profitable business you can do from home and Etsy is one of the best e-commerce platforms that’ll help you do that.

Now, these are the basic steps to opening an Etsy shop and selling your craft. There are fees associated, such as the .20 cents item fee and Etsy’s standard 5% transaction fee when you sell one of your items. All-in-all, though, pretty small fees for a job you love. #15 Niche Blogger
Blogging is hard work. It takes so darn long to see any results.
…it’s not an impossible job. Done right, it can be pretty profitable.
In fact, Orbit Media tells us that blogging pays off and bloggers who spend more time on their blog are more likely to be successful. And by successful, I mean they get a lot of readers and earn a lot of money.
A niche blog is the easiest way to be a blogger. Niche blogging is where you blog on a specific subject…really narrowed down to attract a specific reader.
Here’s an example:
Let’s say you know a lot about kid friendly meals. That’s your niche. Your kids are the active participants in your ‘test kitchen’. You know how to cook veggies to suit their pallet, how to make chicken tenders that aren’t dried out, and how to give foods a name that entices the pickiest eaters (‘Uncle-Jim’s-Super-Delicious-Chicken-and-Cheese-Quesadillas’ went over really well in our home). Write about all these things and throw in some posts about how to get blueberry stains out of a teddy bear.
To help you get started with your niche blog, here’s an article I wrote that details how to start a niche blog. It also goes into brainstorming ideas, what tools your need, and how much it’ll cost you.
And this is important: your niche blog doesn’t have to be all about mommy and kid stuff. If you love to garden with tropical plants, then that can be your niche. In fact, WPBeginner.com tells us the best blogging niches are health & fitness, personal finance, and fashion.
Making money with a niche blog is pretty easy…as long as you understand that it won’t happen overnight. It may not even happen for several months. That said, here is one of the best articles that explains how to make money with a niche blog.
#16 Entry-Level Customer Service
One of the most common – and most needed – work from home job is a Customer Service Representative. And there are many that don’t require experience. In fact, a lot of companies will train you their way.
For instance, Allstate hires, and trains, entry-level bilingual Customer Service reps.
Nexrep hires Customer Experience Call Center Agents who have little experience to work from home.
And Support.com takes beginners to provide technical support for their customers.

#17 Online Researcher
If you can answer questions by performing specific internet research, this is a good job opportunity for you.
You can earn anywhere from $8.00 an hour to $35.00 an hour as an Online Researcher, depending the difficulty level of the questions and the company you work with.
Two places worth checking out are Wonder and Study Pool, which I’ll go over now.
Wonder pays you to be a “human search engine”, which they call a Research Assistant, answering questions submitted by paying customers who don’t want to dig for the answers themself.
Getting started is pretty easy:
First go to their website.
Then, in the ‘Join Our Community’ panel enter your name and email address, create a password, and agree to their terms and conditions (which seem to be the standard you see just about anywhere:) )
Now, click the ‘Start Application’ button to begin the application process. It goes like this:
The application consists of a test to see if you qualify to be a Wonder Research Assistant. This test is a sample question for you to research the answer, which is similar to the type of questions you’ll get when you start working. The purpose of the test is so Wonder can see how quickly and accurately you answer the questions and how good you are at presenting your answer in a well-explained manner.
If you’re accepted, your next step is to learn some of the research and answer-formatting guidelines.
Finally, when you’re ready to start working, go to your Wonder dashboard and start researching answers to your assigned requests.
StudyPool is similar to Wonder, but your questions are from students who want a little help getting answers to their academic questions.
Even though you’re called a ‘Tutor’, you’re not tutoring in the normal sense, you’re providing answers, not teaching.
For example, let’s say a student has an essay on e-commerce due in a few days and needs to know how and when e-commerce started. This student provides detailed information about what he needs to know and the time frame in which he needs it.You, as the Tutor, will do the research and provide the answer.
So how do you get started as a StudyPool Tutor ?
You go to their website and create an account. You’ll have to verify your email but once you do that you can start the 20-30 minute application process. Which, by the way, asks a lot of questions about yourself, your education, and your research abilities.
It’s strongly suggested you become familiar with the StudyPool working guidelines, which can be found here. In a nutshell, you bid on questions similar to if you were bidding on an item on ebay. If you’re bid is accepted by the student who posed the question, you do the research and get paid.
How To Choose The Best Job if You’re a Stay At Home Mom ?
When searching for do-able jobs you can do at home – while also taking care of your kids – one thing always stands out:
There are way more opportunities out there than you can possibly do.
Trying out each one is time consuming, and often a waste of your time if you don’t get out of it what you expect.
So, to find the best opportunity for you, consider these things:
- Is the job something that interests you ? You don’t want to waste too much of your time with something that doesn’t appeal to you. Which is why I elaborated on each of the jobs listed to give you more insight into what you can expect.
- Is the pay good enough ? You might be surprised at how much you can earn working at home with a job that doesn’t require much experience. And if the job is lower paying than you want, can you stick with it for a while ?
- Is there enough flexibility ? Can you drop work and tend to your children whenever you need to ?
- Can you really do the job with kids around ? Another surprise: most of these jobs can be done with kids right there with you.
Before you get too wrapped-up in a job, make sure it’s something you think you can really do based on your routine. This will make life so much easier for you.
